Call for a Tech Coordinator

The Tech Coordinator’s main goal will be to ensure the continuity and sustainability of IT systems and platforms in SCI. This will translate into documentation writing, and website maintenance and updates. In addition, the Tech Coordinator will serve as a mentor for the Tech volunteer who will have a variety of tech-based responsibilities, including user assistance. The Tech Coordinator will assist this junior IT person in implementing improvements for one or several of our platforms, providing a roadmap and technical help when necessary. They will also work with the Tech Team, a team of SCI activists contributing remotely to the tech projects.

STATUS OF POST:
 
The post is based at the International Secretariat (IS) of Service Civil International in Antwerp, Belgium. This is a full-time employment position (37,5 hours/week), on a fixed term (one year contract) under Belgian legislation, with the possibility of extension.
 
DETAILED TASK DESCRIPTION:
  • Develop and improve the Members Area (internal knowledge sharing/holding platform in Drupal) 
  • Maintain the Members Area and Q2A 
  • Work with Communication and Volunteer Coordinator (CVC) on the technical component of the new sci.ngo website
  • Maintain the movements different websites
  • Work on creating a fully functioning Online Evaluation System to expand to the whole movement (Limesurvey)
  • Work on the front-end of the Online Placement System (OPS) with CVC and OPS team (currently in Joomla)
  • Create a fully functional app for the OPS for public to use
  • Mentor (a) junior Tech volunteer(s) in the office who will be doing several tasks, including user assistance and working on different projects.
  • Coordinate the Tech Team online
  • Provide technical consultation during project writing
  • Keep informed on the Long-term Volunteering database and its’ progress
  • Assist with the creation of new websites with different functionally for different projects, later to be included in the sci.ngo website
  • Maintain the security of our servers
  • Maintain and improve internal services (mailing lists and email accounts) with the tech volunteer
 
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Successful candidates for this post are expected to have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar field (or proven equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in IT management positions
- Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress or other CMS knowledge
- PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript
- Used to working with volunteers (desired) 
 
Other requirements:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Well-organized
- Willingness to discover and use new platforms and technologies
- Comfortable coordinating teams online
- Ability to mentor a junior Tech volunteer 
 
CONDITIONS:
1. The Tech Coordinator (TC) is directly responsible to the SCI International Coordinator, who supervises the TC on behalf of the International Executive Committee.
2. The TC will be based at the Secretariat in Antwerp, Belgium and is rarely expected to travel for meetings, seminars, and tasks related duties. Sometimes extended working hours might be needed.
3. This is a full-time role for an initial period of one year, with an envisioned possibility of extension. The working hours are 37.5 per week with a possibility of flexible arrangement, according to Belgian legislation.
4. We offer monthly gross salary of 2290 euro, plus all benefits foreseen by Belgian legislation (meal cheques, paid holidays, 13th month, etc).
