Volunteers are the core of all SCI activities. That is, all our activities are organised not only for volunteers, but almost entirely by volunteers. It is remarkable that an organisation as big as SCI sustains itself almost entirely on volunteers. Of course, many branches also have some paid staff in their offices, but volunteers run most of the activities at the national as well as the international level.
In SCI voluntary work is a value in itself. Volunteering means acting out of self-initiative for the benefit of civil society, without seeking material reward. For SCI it is a powerful tool for personal and social transformation. The individual gains self-confidence and skills, at the same time as contributing to positive change in society.
SCI encourages and supports the involvement of each individual volunteer and helps them express and realise their own ideas. In return each volunteer is an essential building block of SCI and the peace movement as a whole. Every volunteer is different, and this diversity is what makes SCI such a dynamic and creative organisation.
So... to all the volunteers between 1920 and now...
THANK YOU!!
