How?

Workcamp, Ukraine (2011)
If you became enthusiastic, then here is the information you need about joining one of SCI`s voluntary projects. The application process depends on a few things:
Whether there is an SCI branch or partner organisation in your country:
For all projects, either short or long term, you need to apply through your local SCI branch or partner organisation. You can find the SCI office that is nearest to you in the worldmap on this website. If there is no SCI representative in your country, you may contact either an SCI branch in a neighbouring country, or the International Secretariat.
Where you want to volunteer:
If you want to volunteer in your own country, then the minimum age requirement is 16 years. It is possible for children to join workcamps as well, but only of accompanied by their parents and only if workcamp conditions are safe for children. If you want to volunteer abroad you need to be at least 18 years old. For projects in Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa the minimum age requirement is often 20 years. Besides, for projects in these regions SCI branches and partner organisations often request previous (volunteer) experience and ask all volunteers to join a special preparatory training. Language requirements also depend on where you want to go. Often a basic level of English is enough to join a workcamp. For Latin America however, some skills in Spanish and/ or Portuguese are important.
Whether you want to apply for a short- or a long term project:
For short term projects you can use the Online Workcamp Database to search for a project by country, theme, duration and time of the year. You can also apply on-line for most of the projects. For long term projects there is the Long Term Database. Here you can search for Long Term Volunteer vacancies. For Long Term Volunteer positions there is no possibility to apply on-line. Instead you contact your local SCI branch or partner organisation directly by email or phone. More information about the application process for Long Term Volunteer positions can be found in the Long Term Database.
