Vacancy for EVS Long Term Volunteer 2010
There is an EVS vacancy in the International Secretariat. The Long Term Volunteer will be starting on 1st of June 2010, and the position will be for 12-14 months. Attached you can find the application form, and below the job description. Applications need to be sent before 14 March 2010.
The position might be co-funded by EU Youth in Action Programme. Therefore applicants must be between 18 - 30 years old. All applications must be supported by a sending organization from the so-called EU Youth in Action Programme Countries and Neighbouring Partner Countries (meaning: coming from an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and most countries from South East Europe, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and the Mediterranean Partner Countries).
Job Description:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES are to support the staff, international executives and prep teams in promoting and developing the international work of SCI in Europe. This includes supporting the organization of SCI events (trainings, seminars, publications), e.g. in the framework of “SCI 90 years” in 2010, the European year of volunteering in 2011 and being involved in the peace work of SCI. It also includes general office work and taking care of part of the general international communications, mainly done by e-mail.
The work will be done in close cooperation with the other team members in the International Secretariat (three paid staff and 2 LTV´s) international prep teams and SCI branches and activists. Most of the work is done by e-mailing, supported by skype meetings and some other preparation and evaluation meetings.
Specifc Duties:
A. Assist the coordination of several projects together with prep teams, staff and other SCI activists and branches;
Assist the staff with the coordination of activities in the framework of “SCI 90 years” in 2010 and the European year of volunteering in 2011.
Assisting certain international working groups and staff with organizing seminars and meetings in 2010 and 2011.
Helping preparing funding applications for project grants related to projects within the framework of the (draft) Strategic Plan and SCI year plans. Also assisting with writing grant reports and general project management.
Helping the Finance Officer in keeping sound financial records and budgets for the activities and projects in which s/he is involved.
B. Assisting Peace Work in SCI:
Updating and organizing the www.spaceforpeace.net website with information coming from SCI activists and others.
Approach braches and activists to stimulate the organization of Peace Voluntary Projects and other peace activities
Provide some assistance and help keeping the overview with others on what is happening in SCI on peace related activities.
C. Support other work of the international secretariat:
Supporting the overall communication in the movement: providing general information or responding to specific requests to relevant parts of the movement.
Some of the international communications might be related to the planning and implementation of the new SCI Strategic Plan that will start at the beginning of 2011.
Helping in preparing funding applications for administrative grants.
The LTV will be expected to undertake certain other administrative duties. Next to general office duties, these will include shared responsibility for the upkeep of the office and office equipment.
The LTV may be expected to undertake other appropriate tasks at the request of the International Coordinator, International Finance Officer and Programmes/fundraising Officer.
Depending on background, skills and personal interests of the volunteer, there would be some scope to adapt the task description as mentioned above.
PROFILE/SKILLS REQUIRED
Interest in SCI and the work we do
Preferably experience in SCI or similar organisation for more than a year
Preferably experience in project development and project management
An interest in peace education
Ability to work independently and to work in a team.
Social skills and ability to integrate in a multicultural team
Good English speaking and writing
18-30 years young (due to EVS requirements)
Computer literate
Ability to apply for an EVS position, meaning not have done EVS before and coming from a Youth in Action Programme Country and Neighbouring Partner Countries (see the listing of countries in the text above)
Be supported by a sending organisation (meaning having an accreditation to sent EVS volunteers)
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

An allowance of 440 EURO per month. In Belgium, this is fairly sufficient for all elementary costs of food, leisure time activities and a few extras.
We provide accommodation. This means a room of your own in a house, where in most cases bathroom, kitchen, and living room would be shared with the other inhabitants of the house.
A working week of 37.5 hours
21 holidays per year plus 9 statutory holidays
Normal EVS conditions, for example EVS Insurance: AXA and participation in trainings for EVS (just in the case that SCI would get the EVS grant).
SCI will pay approved expenses and costs connected with the work
Travels to and from Belgium at the start and end of service are covered by the EVS grant up to a certain maximum.
