2014 SCI campaign involving SCI members, partners and many volunteers around the globe
Volunteers at work, Italy
`This workcamp allowed me to meet people I would probably never have otherwise. Thanks to the renovation project, our paths crossed and we had incredible moments of sharing stories, a few testimonies, and a lot of coffee and tea, giving ¨brotherhood¨ its concrete sense!` - Marie Morgane Heule, Short term volunteer in Kosovo, 2010
SCI has been organising voluntary projects for over 90 years, as a way to promote and build a culture of peace while supporting local communities. Every year thousands of volunteers work on international voluntary projects organised in many countries all around the world by SCI’s member - and partner organisations.
An international voluntary project with SCI is a unique opportunity: it is an adventure packed with rich learning experiences. It gives you the chance to explore the world with a purpose. It is a way to give something back, to have something to do, somewhere to go, and somewhere to stay. SCI is open to all, which means that everybody can volunteer, regardless of cultural, national, social and economic backgrounds or age.
With SCI you can volunteer in the project of your own personal choice. Whether you want to go abroad and explore new horizons, or prefer to stay closer to home. Whether you want to renovate a historic building, plant trees in a reforestation project or take care of children with disabilities. There is always a project for you. SCI offers projects of short, mid- and long duration. You can volunteer for as little as two weeks up to twelve months. As a volunteer you participate in the project of your choice and join an international volunteer team that works closely with local communities. Volunteering with SCI is a fantastic way to develop new friendships, study local and global issues up close, and gain greater understanding of new cultures.
