2014 SCI campaign involving SCI members, partners and many volunteers around the globe
Peace Messengers Training, 2010 (SCI Hungary)
Peace Messengers are volunteers who contribute to build and promote a culture of peace by organising Peace Education sessions in workcamps. In this way the workcamp experiences are conneced to SCI's identity as a peace organisation. The mission of the Peace Messengers is to promote peace and intercultural understanding and empower people to implement and promote pacifist values in their lives.
Peace Messengers travel to workcamps in their own countries or abroad. There is no fixed format for their sessions. They can last an hour, an evening, a whole day or even an entire week-end. It all depends on the availability of the Peace Messengers and the time of the workcamp participants. The activities vary from awareness raising activities to dealing in-depth with particular issues related to peace. Examples of sessions are a presentation, a testimony, an artistic workshop, or even an entire programme resulting in workcamp participants running peace awareness-activities themselves in the local communities!
The growing network of Peace Messengers consists entirely of volunteers, who are all trained themselves in order to become Peace Messengers. Trainings for Peace Messengers take place every year, in different countries. The aim of these trainings is always to enable the volunteers to conduct Peace Messengers workshops during the summer. Trainers often use hands-on approaches, allowing volunteers to learn by doing and observing others. At the same time trainers also provide theoretical inputs and often they share their own experiences as Peace Messengers.
