The IS has applied for funding to host an EVS volunteer in the office. The post would be from early August 2008 - August 2009. We are now making the call for applicants for this position, but please be aware the funding has not yet been approved but will hopefully be confirmed later in May.
The MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES of the Project LTV are to support the other staff in promoting and developing the international work of SCI in Europe and in supporting the implementation of SCI's Strategic Plan. The EVS volunteer will work closely with the peace education elements of the plan, as well as other projects run by the IS.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
A. Assist the coordination of several projects connected to the Strategic Plan:
• Summer University August 2008 in Austria
• General leaflet of SCI (to be confirmed)
• Peace training or new strategic plan seminar in Europe 2009 (to be developed and to be confirmed)
• Other trainings that might come up during the year
• Updating www.spaceforpeace.net webpage
• Helping preparing funding applications for project grants related to projects within the framework of the Strategic Plan.
• Helping the Finance Officer in keeping sound financial records and budgets for the activities and projects in which s/he is involved.
B. Support the general work of the international secretariat:
• Supporting the overall communication in the movement providing general information or responding to specific requests to relevant parts of the movement.
• Helping in preparing funding applications for administrative grants.
• The LTV will be expected to undertake certain administrative duties. Next to general office duties, these will include responsibility for the upkeep of the office and office equipment.
• The LTV may be expected to undertake other appropriate tasks at the request of the International Coordinator or International Finance Officer.
• Depending on background, skills and personal interests of the volunteer there would be some scope to adapt the task description as mentioned above.
PROFILE/SKILLS REQUIRED
• Interest in SCI and the work we do
• Preferably experience in SCI for more than a year
• Preferably experience in project development and project management
• An interest in peace education
• Ability to work independently and to work in a team
• Social skills and ability to integrate in a multicultural team
• Good English speaking and writing
• 18-30(!) years young (due to EVS requirements)
• Computer literate
• Ability to apply for an EVS position, meaning not have done EVS before and coming from a Youth in Action programme(!) country (EU member states + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey). Apologies for interested people from other countries (general LTV vacancies available another time)!
• Be supported by a sending organisation (meaning having an accreditation to sent EVS volunteers)
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
• An interesting, international working environment

• An allowance of 420 EURO per month (including costs for any language courses if taken). In Belgium, this is fairly sufficient for all elementary costs of food, leisure time activities and a few extras
• We provide accommodation. This means a room of your own in a house, where in most cases bathroom, kitchen, and living room would be shared with the other inhabitants of the house.
• A working week of 37.5 hours
• 21 holidays per year plus 10 statutory holidays
• Normal EVS conditions, for example EVS Insurance: AXA and participation in trainings for EVS
• SCI will pay approved expenses and costs connected with the work
• Travels to Belgium are covered by EVS
