International Bodies

International Committee Meeting (ICM)

The annual assembly of SCI is called the International Committee Meeting and it takes place every year either in Europe or in Asia. Every branch has a right to vote, but delegates from SCI groups and working groups also attend. ICM is the main decision making body of SCI and the place where the general policy of the organisation is defined. Among its tasks, the ICM decides on the budget-, plan of action, recognises working groups, accepts new branches and elects an international executive committee (IEC).

International Executive Committee (IEC)

The IEC is the co-ordinating body of the organisation. The main tasks of the IEC are to ensure that the decisions made in the ICM are put in practice and to make any necessary decisions or actions needed between the two ICM’s.

Its members are elected by the ICM for a two-year mandate. It comprises a President, a Vice-president, a Treasurer and up to five other members. The International Co-ordinator of SCI is an ex-officio member and does not have a voting right.

Asian Platform Meeting (APM)

The Asian branches and partners have annually at least one common meeting. In this meeting they can plan the coming activities, learn from each other and strenghten the co-operation between the organisations.

Technical European Meeting (TEM)

The Technical European Meeting is organised in the spring before the summer exchanges start. Originally the main aim was to exchange the camp programmes and decide about the practical procedures of the coming exchange season. These are issues are still on the agenda of the meeting, but now with the help of electronic communication the camp information can be uploaded directly to the SCI database and found on the Camp Search Engine.

TEM is a meeting to discuss technical and organisational matters regarding the exchanges and also a place for activists and people working in the offices to meet.

International staff

The composition of the international staff varies according to the needs and resources of the organisation. It comprises at least an International Co-ordinator, who co-ordinates the rest of the staff and is ex-officio member of the IEC, a Finance Officer and also long-term volunteers, who work in the office or people who are employed for a special project. At the moment the International Secretariat (IS) is situated in Antwerpen, Belgium. Contact details you can find here.
