SCI 90 years anniversaryAt both international and branch levels SCI preparatory activities to celebrate, commemorate and reflect on ninety years of volunteering for peace, intercultural understanding, mutual respect and tolerance have started. Travelling Exposition
From the archives comes the initiative to organize a ´Travelling Exposition´ about Pierre Ceresole (the founder of SCI) and in general about SCI´s values of peace, intercultural understanding and volunteering. The exposition will be held in Switserland and finances are almost entirely secured. Branches can reproduce the exposition locally, by printing the posters or roll-ups in their countries and organize a venue, promotional activities et cetera. Untill now there are eight branches that show interest in hosting the exposition locally, among which SCI Madrid and SCI Catalonia, who want to adapt it to local & national circumstances and history in Spain as well. SCI France will also host the exposition probably in November in Verdun, where there will also be a seminar where participants can look back at our past and draw lessons for the future regarding volunteering for peace.
No more war campaign
Apart from the exposition there is the 'no more war' campaign, that was initiated by SCI Germany and now involves 12 countries. Special workcamps with an intensive study element on peace, conflict resolution, intercultural understanding and tolerance will be organized in Europe and worldwide this summer. All camps will be filmed, since the idea is also to make a video that will be broadcasted on U-tube and websites of SCI and its branches, to spread the message of volunteering for peace and 'no more war'. Besides, it will be an integral part of the SCI 90 years 'Travelling Exposition'. The no more war campaign connects to SCI 90 years anniversary in the sense that it looks back at 90 years of 'peacebuilding' of SCI - the values & the methods used, the experiences -. These lessons from the past are the main input for the study sessions of the 'no more war' work camps.

The International Secretariat (IS) recently submitted a grant application to EACEA’s ‘Europe for Citizens’ program with the aim of getting financial support for the above mentioned initiatives. We will know the results of the grant application within 3 months. Besides, the IS will soon start working on building an interactive webpage for SCI 90 years, where you will be able to find pictures, short videos, interesting & inspiring stories from SCI volunteers from past and present, and where you will able to join in discussions on volunteering for peace in past, present and future! Of course this webpage will also provide you with practical information on all the activities organized at both international and national levels in SCI and the latest news. A special SCI 90 years anniversary logo – which will be used on all communication related to the event - is being developed right now…Please stay tuned and keep yourself informed by the e-zine, SCI mailing list and www.sciint.org. |
