The SCI Mediterranean Working Group (SCI-Midi) sees it as its responsibility to ensure a responsible and smooth exchange of volunteers between the Mediterranean region and the rest of the SCI movement, in an effort to posit a just peace as an alternative to violence and oppression.
It seeks to communicate and strengthen the broader SCI movement’s solidarity with its partners and their communities in times of need. Currently, SCI-Midi takes responsibility for Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco. It remains willing to take responsibilities for countries geographically and culturally linked to those mentioned when the need or opportunity arises.
On the 31st of January the MIDI group held its first ever MIDI skype meeting. It was the first, but for sure not the last. Many decisions were taken and actions planned. One of these is the finding of a partner organisation for SCI-Midi in Israel. There has been a meeting with Sadaka Reut and the Jaffa Popular Committee. Miidi decided to continue discussions with the latter and one of the Midi-members is planning to visit the organisation this month.
Good news is also that many SCI branches have signed a partnership with CCIVS to access EVS funding for a program in Palestine. This program includes 20 places for Palestinians on EVS projects in Europe! Then there is the plan to organize a ´training for trainers´seminar together with the Conflict Resolution group in SCI; a planned visit to Morocco and many more....A lot going on for Midi in 2010....!
