Key Travel and SCI: new partnershipAt the International Secretariat we recently started co-operating with a travel agency in Belgium, called Key Travel. This agency works exclusively for non-profit organizations and works with similar social, ethical and ecological standards as most non-profits. Of course it is a travel agency, which means that they sell flights. And that means CO2 emission. So why would SCI even consider to co-operate with them? Let me explain...
1. Key Travel plants a tree for every flight that is booked with them.
2. Key Travel pays between 2 and 3 euros to SCI for each flight that is booked with them by either SCI staff, activists or volunteers (work camp participants) or even relatives/ friends
3. Key Travel saves free air miles on each flight booked by SCI-people, which the IS will use to create a travel-fund for the branches
4. SCI is not obligated to book with Key Travel. No strings attached.
5. Key Travel uses only fair trade products and recycled office materials as much as possible.
6. Key Travel is specialized in serving the non-profit sector
7. Key Travel offers additional services for free, such as Risk Management Information for volunteers.
8. This partnership is by no means meant to stimulate flying within SCI! On the contrary: SCI will always prefer and recommend other ways of transportation, like train and bus. However, certain destinations are difficult to reach if not by plane, and if we need to fly then we better do it like this...
Soon you will find more information about this partnership on the website and in this e-zine. There we will also explain how to make use of the reservation forms, and how you and/ or your branch can bring this service to your volunteers. |
