Call for participants: Peace Education Seminar in Poland
SCI’s Annual Advanced Peace Education Skills Training in Europe: Non Violent Communication
25th November - 2nd December 2007
A training for experienced activists: volunteers and staff.
Background
Following the adoption of the strategic plan for the period 2004 – 2009, SCI has refreshed its focus on peace issues and peace education. The plan contains four strategic objectives:
1) strengthening pro-active peace-work within SCI
2) increasing the effectiveness and impact of SCI’s peace work by networking and cooperating with like-minded organizations
3) improvement of the quality and level of peace education within the Movement
4) building up the capacity of the movement
This seminar is part of the concrete action plan for objective 3, which foresees annual training events in both Europe and Asia/Pacific.
What is it about?
For SCI as an international organization, ‘communication’ is a constant challenge; an aspect of our everyday work which we often find difficult. Yet communication is also something in which we can actually be peace makers and express who we are as a peace organization. The coming training/seminar will explore the philosophy and practice of non-violent communication in the tradition of the ‘Rosenberg network’. We have invited a trainer from this network, thus also implementing an idea of strategic objective 2!
During this event we would like to encourage participants to develop their skills in non violent communication, to examine the consequences of this concept for SCI and find ways to apply it in SCI’s day to day practice.
Who can apply?
We would like to encourage all people who play an active role at national and/or international level in SCI and/or in partner organizations to apply. More specifically, this seminar’s target group include staff members, members of statutory bodies within SCI and it’s working groups and activists involved in training activities in their organizations.
Technicalities
Deadline for all applications is 7th September.
Please apply through your branch and send completed forms to info@jedenswiat.org.pl. Please answer ALL the questions in the form! Information about your experience with non-violent communication is important for the trainer: your level of knowledge about this is not a selection criterion.
