Sri Lanka Documentary Project

During July and August 2007 Wouter Lismont, a volunteer of VIA Belgium - the Flemish branch of SCI, will make a movie documentary about several international voluntary projects in Sri Lanka. Two of those projects are organised by SCI. The participants of the SCI projects/work camps are a group of international and local volunteers working together on a social or ecological project.
The first project he will document is in Kandy and is about a school (“Blue Rose School” one of the long term projects of SCI Sri Lanka) for mentally disabled children. The second project is cleaning an irrigation tank to ensure the water supply in a village in Kurunegala. The third project is organised by the Bouworde and takes place in Kiriella where 12 Flemish volunteers will help to construct a school. The documentary will be about the projects, voluntary work and very important: the intercultural exchange, learning and experiences on both sides.

The documentaries will be shown on several occasions in Belgium and will also be available on the website or on request on DVD. They can be used as promotion material for the partner organisations.

Main project goals:

• Promote voluntary work and inspire people
• Achieve intercultural understanding and learning
• Support the projects that will be shown in the documentaries
